ARTIST: Debrider

RELEASE: Blind And Bloodshot EP

RELEASE DATE: 28/07/15

RECORD COMPANY: Unsigned

The opening salvos of this brand new debut EP release from Washington based dreamgazer ‘Debrider’ aka Lia Pisa-Relli has all the hall marks musically of an early ‘Mazzi Star’ composition or even the earliest lo-fi recordings of seminal 90’s band ‘Throwing Muses’. There’s a definite atmospheric psychedelic swagger from the ‘Blind And Bloodshot’ EP that keeps you close to its inner workings & fully focused on each track but there’s also enough sporadic splashes of shoegaze infused dreampop straddling its core to counterbalance the immensely beautiful vocal arrangements & the jangle of reverb infused guitars. Released on the 28th July via bandcamp, the EP was recorded, produced, mixed & mastered by Jack Hubbell & composed, performed & written by Lia Pisa-Relli.

The opening track ‘Quarters’ is a sluggish lo-fi jangling affair with a minimal drum pattern & a beautiful vocal arrangement swimming in a sea of luscious reverb. ‘Never Leave Me’ is the stand out track on the EP for me. Reminiscent in parts to the brilliant New York based ‘Shana Falana’ but with a hint of that early 90’s dreamy alt rock sound that defined a generation. Yet another stunning faultless vocal performance & a swirling synth that catches you off guard when listened to via headphones! Track 3 ‘The Wait’ was originally written by ‘Built To Spill’ & is full of shoegazing tendencies, probably the most from any of the tracks on this EP, but impressive none the less. Up next are the swirling sampled tones of the rather addictive ‘Insomnia (Interlude)’ which wash across the musical atmosphere with aplomb. Sounding like a thundering intersection of a ‘Trent Reznor’ track meeting old school ‘Depeche Mode’ it leaves this listener wanting to hear more of the same but as it fades out its lingering imprint heralds the arrival of a beautiful monster in the form of the EP’s closing track ‘Love Song’. Again the vocal performance of Lia Pisa-Relli is hauntingly beautiful as it swirls around the repetitive drum arrangement & a reverb laden guitar pattern & is intertwined at times with epic backing vocals & stunning addictive cinematic production.
