ARTIST: Ultraviolet

RELEASE: Ultraviolet

RELEASE DATE: 30/08/15

RECORD COMPANY: Unsigned

Texas based psychedelic dream gazers ‘Ultraviolet’ released their shimmering debut self titled EP back at the end of August. Consisting of duo James Grantham & Caitlin Craighead what they have created in this debut 5 track release is beautifully crafted shoegazing soundscapes intertwined with dreampop infused vocal arrangements reminiscent at times to modern day underground dreamy nugazers ‘UMMAGMA’. The EP was Recorded/Mixed by Douglas Helsel, Mastered by Joe Lambert & Produced by Garry Craighead.

The EP opens up with the magical ‘Lock & Key’. This track has a cinematic post rock esq footing but its layers of reverb induced shoegazing brilliance are evident for all to hear! The dreamy vocal arrangements courtesy of the epic ‘Caitlin Craighead’ are simply divine & whats more, musically within this track I’m hearing guitar flourishes reminiscent of the brilliant ‘War On Drugs’. Which is a win win as far as I’m concerned! Up next is another astonishing track! ‘Hearts In The Sand’ is a one way ticket to dreampop heaven. Im hearing so many influential dreampop artists from the 80’s & 90’s within the dreamy guitar lines & that highly addictive vocal arrangement. Simply stunning!Track 3 ‘Fools Gold’ enters the musical arena on waves of emotive musical swells & floating vocal lines. Its enticing tone explodes with the arrival of its pounding drum arrangement and all is now well with world. Reminiscent at times to Wales/Wisconsin based musical outfit ‘Golden Fable’ this is yet another stunning track from a band who can do no wrong in my eyes. Track 4 ‘Strawberry Echoes’ oozes oldschool shoegazing coolness with its shimmering hue of fuzzy swirling reverberations, glorious vocals & sublime production. Possibly my favourite track on this entire release it just pulses with emotive impressionistic gazing goodness until we reach that break! Then we’re floating on an  immense cloud of dreampop brilliance. Simply stunning! The closing track on the rather impressive debut release from Texas based dream gazing duo ‘Ultraviolet’ meanders into context with another beautiful ethereal vocal arrangement courtesy of Caitlin Craighead & that stunning swirling mass of shimmering guitars. ‘Gold Coast’ builds & builds until that epic chorus breaks like waves on a sun drenched beach. A truly stunning finish to a brilliant EP.

This debut self titled EP release from Texas based ‘Ultraviolet’ has instantly catapulted itself into one of my favourites of 2015. stunning vocals, stunning guitars & production to die for! RECOMMENDED LISTENING!
