EP REVIEW | LIFT – Question EP

RELEASE: Question EP

RELEASE DATE: 08/11/15

The enigmatic Lift have given their3 track EP ‘Question’ a very apt name, as I have lots of those about them. All I know is they are from Boston and this EP came out in November. Whoever they are Lift have put together a debut(?) EP that shines with shoegaze style.

The EP opens with a maelstrom of swooping whammy in the almost smothering layers of ‘Speed Through To’. There is a human voice buried beautifully in that heavy guitar squall, just hold your breath and you’ll hear it. ‘She’ll Be There’ is the sound of the storm clouds sprinting off on a spring breeze. Bursting with optimism, the track gambols along in a haze of happiness. A tune called ‘Long Nights’ could only be wistful, could it not, with its sweeping guitar lines which are perfect for gazing out of the window to and dreaming of what might have been.

In her time Sarah Cuthbert-Kerr has attended raves and rock clubs. She enjoys pedals, pizza and spy dramas. Sarah also plays guitar in Edinburgh-based noisemakers Wozniak and is co-founder of Morningside Young Team who put on gigs and put out records for discerning audiences who enjoy fuzz and confusion.
