EP REVIEW | Moon Loves Honey – Apart.

ARTIST: Moon Loves Honey

RELEASE DATE: 26/02/16

Danish based dreamy dream-gazers ‘Moon Loves Honey’ released their debut EP entitled ‘Apart’ back on the 26th February 2016. Combining a hazy mix of melodic dream pop with layered soaring shoegaze, ‘Moon Loves Honey’ take their listeners on a reverb induced psychedelic voyage of discovery. The band are made up of  Jeppe Dengsø – Vocal & Guitar, Stine Drejer – Vocal & Synth, Johan Gudmandsen – Bass & Ludvig Kastberg on drums and their debut EP is available to buy/download right now from moonloveshoney.bandcamp.com/

The EP opens up with the monolithic ‘Tell Me More Of Your Lies’. This track shimmers on a layer of reverb drenched guitars, soaring synth progressions & pounding drums as its addictive lead guitar licks swirl around the beautiful vocal lines to stunning effect. Track two ‘Balloon’ fades into earshot, hypnotising this listener with its soothing guitars, shuffling drums and those brilliant saxophone licks hugging the tips of sonic sphere. The introduction of a duel vocal adds atmosphere and weight to proceedings as the track soars. Simply sublime from start to finish. Track three ‘Start All Over Again’ is a beautiful slice of euphoric dream-pop with luscious sounding synth swells, pounding drums & a fantastic vocal take all swirling within a cacophony of hazy dream-gazing flourishes. Up next ‘Quiet Goodbye’ is a slow affair with layered jangling, reverberating guitars straddling a beautifully melodic duel vocal and that fragile piano progression. Track five, ‘My Friends’ echoes within a sea of reverb as we float along with its addictively golden sonic frequencies whilst the EP’s closing track ‘Nothing Will Change’ is eight minutes plus of shimmering sonic beauty as we’re brought on a journey of almost magical proportions. The duel vocal is captivating as meanders along with those mesmerising guitars building to a cacophony of immense sounds.

A truly magnificent ending to a brilliant debut EP.   Recommended Listening!

  1. Very nice review, Del. I just discovered Moon Loves Honey on Bandcamp and I agree that it is a very good debut album reminiscent of Cocteau Twins, or perhaps a slight nod to The Frames. Your description is on the money. This album is definitely dreamy and hypnotic, sweet yet not saccharin. While an audiophile might find some issues with the addictive and indiscriminate use of reverb, which muddies the mix, the overall sound is quite enjoyable. All in all, a very good first album.
