RELEASE DATE: 16/04/16
RECORD COMPANY: Gerpfast Kolektif
Impressive Indonesian based dream gazing outfit ‘Hellens’ have announced the release of their debut six track EP entitled ‘Distancia’ for the 16th April 2016 to coincide with record Store Day in Malang,Indonesia. The EP gets its full release via the ever brilliant independent record label Gerpfast Kolektif Records. Formed in 2015, ‘Hellens’ are made up of Maulana Akbar – Drums, Igar Adriansyah – Rhythm Guitar , Satrio Rizky – Lead Guitar, Andrian Garibaldi – Bass, Dan Ary Gunaryono – Synth & Larasati Nugraha – Vocal and collectively they create a stunning blend of soaring shoegaze & emotive dream pop.
The EP opens up with a two minute instrumental aptly entitled ‘Distancia’. This track is filled with subtle synth swells, golden hued reverberating guitar lines and addictive percussion patterns that collectively swirl within a beautifully expansive psychedelic melting pot. Up next the explosive but brilliantly melodic ‘Losing Distance’. Driving guitars announce the arrival of Larasati Nugraha’s beautiful vocal tones as the track circumnavigates that steading drum pattern with aplomb. ‘Losing Distance’ is layered with reverberating guitars and it soars into the sonic ether before fading into oblivion. A pulsating wall of sonic frequencies ushers in the astonishing ‘Hesitancy’ as the soaring synth swells carefully cushion beautifully melodic vocal tones courtesy of Larasati Nugraha. ‘Hesitancy’ swirls through layers of reverberating guitars, pounding drums and throbbing bass lines.
‘Spacelight’ floats into the sonic ether on a wave of acoustic frequencies and subtle percussive hits and act as a guide to that beautifully executed duel vocal track that seems to perfectly sit atop the overall production. The track erupts into a golden hued cacophony of reverberating noise before falling back into gorgeous synth swells drenched in expansive reverb. The EP’s penultimate track is called ‘Fadeaway’. It meanders through sonic peaks and troughs with aplomb and does what every good dream-gazing track should do: It uses the quieter verses to showcase a beautiful vocal before exploding during the chorus parts into a stunning maelstrom of beautiful noise. Simply stunning! The EP’s closing track is an older version of ‘Losing Distance’ and beautifully shows the transition that ‘Hellens’ have made musically. A fitting end to a brilliant EP.
